Courtney Knight has nearly 30 years of experience in the municipal finance industry. Since 1982, he has served as financial advisor or managing underwriter on more than 225 municipal issues, with a total par amount exceeding $20 billion. Mr. Knight has served as investment banker or financial advisor on the full range of public finance securities, including certificates of participation, lease revenue bonds, general obligation bonds, tax allocation bonds, sales tax bonds, and revenue bonds for airports, ports, mass transit, water and sewer, health care and state revolving funds.
In 1996, Mr. Knight founded his own municipal financial advisory firm, Knight Capital, LLC, where he specialized in identifying and recommending financing, refinancing and investment strategies for state and local government agencies. Mr. Knight also developed quantitative and analytical tools to implement financial management policies and has been asked to provide expert testimony related to complex municipal bond-related financial litigation. In 2008, he was appointed to the Affordable Housing Task Force by then Mayor Kay Barnes of Kansas City, Missouri.
In August of 2009, Mr. Knight started the Chicago office of a regional investment bank that had no prior presence in the Midwest public finance market. During 2009 and 2010, Mr. Knight’s efforts resulted in that firm completing 13 taxable and tax-exempt transactions totaling over $11.5 billion in Chicago and the states of Illinois, Wisconsin and Ohio.
Throughout his career, Mr. Knight has employed advanced computer modeling to address the complex legal, tax and marketing constraints faced by state and local governments. He has developed refinancing plans, reinvestment strategies and optimal debt structures for small issuers as well as large, complex capital programs.
Mr. Knight received an MBA with concentrations in finance and public sector management from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. He earned a bachelor’s degree in economics (cum laude) from Harvard University.
